But is this really a bad thing? According to many experiences, as the child grows, the second or third set of pads that can be replaced are often lost, so using only one set of pads can almost alleviate it.

One less thing needs to be tracked in the garage, which also reduces the cost of the helmet! Correctly adjusting the sliding cover on the side strap under the ear is necessary to ensure true durability. These sliders are notorious for being scattered frequently, so they fail to keep the helmet centered above the child’s head

Therefore, many of the sun visors on the helmets we have seen have cheap plastic parts, which are easy to fall off, and have little effect on protecting the parts. Sidetrack’s buckle visor is made of quite heavy plastic and is very firmly fixed to the helmet body. Sidetrack Youth offers a MIPS feature as well, which adds extra safety protection to children’s helmets. (This feature, however, is not available in the “kid” size.)

Bell Sidetrack II

Bell Sidetrack II is the original and popular Bell Sidetrack children’s helmet updated in 2020. After upgrading the padding, ventilation and strapping system, Sidetrack II has become more stylish and more comfortable.

However, one of the most significant changes is that Sidetrack II now has three sizes. Sidetrack was previously available in child (47-52 cm) and youth (50-57) sizes, but now it also uses smaller toddlers (45-52 cm).

With all these updates, Sidetrack 2 is a bit more expensive than the original version, but its quality and durability are commensurate with the price. Bell Sidetrack II has the same style as an adult mountain bike helmet, available in a variety of interesting colors and designs, and is equipped with children and youth size MIPS.

Unfortunately, this is not all the benefits, and one of the updates has a big adverse effect. The new design of the dial adjustment system has problems with the size of the toddler and it is difficult to tighten the child’s head correctly.

The adjustment system of Sidetrack II has been updated from the original model. Now, the side strap (to keep the helmet in the center of the child’s head) is a flat and smooth material, which is unlikely to irritate the child’s face.

However, changes to the dial adjustment design make this 2.0 helmet undersized for toddlers. This is a bit disturbing on the “child” scale, but it is not a problem at all on the “youth” scale.

In theory, the cage and knob system allows the parent or child to simply rotate the dial at the back of the head and tighten the inner “cage” of the helmet until it fits snugly against the child’s head.

The problem is to place the dial on the Sidetrack II for toddlers. Compared to the old Sidetrack, it has a high position in the helmet. As a result, it is difficult to grasp the knob with two fingers, and you have to try to turn the lower part of the knob with only one finger.

It is pretty uncomfortable and can hurt your fingers, and it is basically impossible for an impatient and wriggling toddler. Pulling down on the plastic cage can grab the entire knob, but doing so actually pushes the helmet into place. Therefore, it is fundamentally impossible to tighten the knob on the head of an infant. Bike helmets are widely available and they are common options you have to buy first before owning the bike itself but, not all of them will match your preference and different people may have their own taste too so it is highly personal especially if you also take the head shape since this varies greatly.

What feels great for your friend doesn’t always feel the same in your head but, we can use their favorite choice as reference since popular options that are loved by many will have a higher chance to fit yours as well. Among those good brands you may want to shop from, Bell is one of the best and this brand is well-known to not only offer a wide range of models but also amazing products quality. In comparison, they are not the most affordable but have tons or reliable options.

For those road riders, Bell also has popular choices such as the Bell Formula and Falcon from their collection and these are ideal models if you are only riding on smooth pavement or for commuting and daily helmet. They are claimed to not only be protective but also comfortable and this is where road bike helmets usually shine the most since they are meant to be worn often and comfort is what we look as well from these brothers.

But, being similar also makes it difficult to choose because as you may already know, Bell Formula and Falcon are pretty much the same and in comparison, if you will plan to only spend a little, the Formula will be the more interesting option but, being based on the more expensive helmets also made this model adjusted to follow the cost. Bell Formula and Falcon Design

Side by side these helmets are identical as well and in a glance, we personally can’t tell any significant difference between the two. They have the same design and shape and, as you can see, they are also adopting similar vents design but in comparison the vents in Falcon seem to be larger from the outside. In addition, there is a difference at the top of the lid where three stripes are drawn as the middle of this stripe is divided with a plastic grille instead of solid like the former.

Their rear part is also different and when you rotate the helmet, here we can see that the Falcon has two large rear channels compared to four smaller vents on Formula. The overall placement however is still the same and you can find the same vent at the same location or spots in both of them. As for fashion, they are available in various shades to match your preference and comparing the weight, it feels the Formula is actually slightly lighter than Falcon.

Bell Formula and Falcon Construction

The first factor you may want to know about a helmet is probably their rigidity and just like many other brands, Bell Formula and Falcon are also made using the fusion in-mold design or in-mold technique. Helmets made with this mechanism are not glued together between the outer shell and the inside foam but fused together so they will not come off and in general increase the longevity as well as reliability of the helmet for prolonged time as long as they are not experiencing serious impact.

These helmets are also MIPS equipped means there is an additional layer inside meant to protect against multi-directional impact so then the helmet can move a bit during such an event while keeping the inside fit and snug on your head.

Bell Formula and Falcon Adjustment

Moving to the fit, Bell Formula and Falcon are also using the same Float Fit. This is Bell’s system to improve not only how users fit their helmet but also the comfort of their activity. In the past rigid fit will cause so much bumping and discomfort especially if your terrain is unfriendly but with this new system, not only you can dial the fit to match the head shape and size better, it also stays afloat and stable for greater comfort.

The chin strap is adjustable to provide the best length following head and face size or shape. The material is also smooth and does not scratch the skin while it keeps the helmet in its place. We love the adequate room for the Y strap so it won’t press your ears when buckled.

Bell Formula and Falcon

The last part we want to mention is their comfort and here Bell Formula and Falcon respectively have 19 and 18 vents to keep you ride as cool as possible even at lower speeds. These helmets are not made to be the most airy however so you may get better experience with other helmets especially some high-end variants from Kask or Giro. They are very comfortable to ride with and light enough to not cause fatigue but they also take and flow air really well.

They feel great when you pedal faster but as we slow down or climb it also becomes noticeable that they become warmer. Overall they feel great in regular road cycling especially in this price range yet, not the best in the market.

Bell Formula Vs Falcon

Bell Formula and Falcon are close brothers in different price points but similar on both on the design or shape and the performance or comfort. They are quite light for road application and very comfortable as well on higher speed with effective vents but, they will get warmer when you slow down. In comparison however, the Formula is lighter and does have more vents in the unit but in real life it doesn’t make much difference.

All in all there is no bad option between the two so we do think you can go well with just any of these helmets but, counting all factors together we also recommend getting the Formula as it is more affordable with the same type of user experience.
