Coros Linx vs Coros Omni

Technology has allowed humans to turn anything into a smart one. From the invention of smartphones, smart TVs, smart watches, smart home, and now smart cycling helmets. Basically, smart cycling helmets are normal cycling helmets that come with additional features like SOS alert, speaker, and LED lights.

After reviewing smart helmets from Livall the other day, this time we’ll review two of the smart helmet models from Coros, which are Coros Linx and Coros Omni. Both of these models are similarly built and priced, and you’ll find out which one is better than the other at the end of this article.

Coros Linx Review

Coros Linx is currently unavailable on Amazon, but it’s usually sold at $79.99. It holds a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5 from 149 customer reviews. It weighs 1.9 pounds and has a product dimension of 13 x 6.6 x 9 inches. Read also: Giro Reverb vs Sutton.

Coros Linx comes with Coros Bone Conduction that allows you to receive calls without using earphones. The technology turns audio into vibration that goes straight to your inner ear from the tabs of your helmet strap. This way, your ears are free to listen to your surroundings while you’re still able to receive phone calls.

Besides the Coros Bone Conduction, this model also comes with a handlebar mounted smart remote for hands-free audio control for volume, track forward, pause/play, communications. and an app, all of which are connected wirelessly to your smartphone.

It completely removes the needs of wires and earbuds, so your ears, hands, and eyes can remain free and focus on cycling. With ears completely open to ambient sounds, you will be able to maintain situational awareness which will keep your riding safe.

Another important feature of Coros Linx is its G-Sensor (SOS alert). When your helmet experiences an impact, the G-Sensor will automatically send an alert to your emergency contact that you have set before.

In terms of design, this helmet has a slick, racing-style look. It’s light and comfortable to wear for hours on end. You’d never know it has speakers, Bluetooth, a microphone and a battery (which is charged via a hidden Micro-USB port) in its lightweight frame.

However, no product is perfect. The only downside of this smart helmet is the audio will cut in and out as you ride with your smartphone on your pants pocket.

Overall, if you’re looking for a smart helmet that allows you to make phone calls or listen to the music while cycling without needing an earphone, Coros Linx is the one to go. The good news is, the battery of Coros Linx lasts for days of use without being charged.

Coros Omni Review

Coros Omni is priced at $79.99 on Amazon, the same with the Coros Linx model. It currently holds a rating of 4 stars out of 5 from 131 customer reviews. It weighs 2.3 pounds and has a product dimension of 11 x 6.3 x 7.9 inches.

In terms of features, Coros Omni is very similar to Coros Linx. It comes with an innovative open ear bone condensing audio system, auto LED tail lights and Smart Remote, which allow the OMNI to deliver an utmost combination of ride safety and convenience.

The ability to connect with your smartphone allows for two-way audio communication and uploading your ride. Get instant accessibility with the included Smart Remote to change music tracks, adjust volume, turn on/off your LED lights, or answer a phone call.

Similar to Coros Linx, Coros Omni also comes with a Bone Conduction Audio System that delivers precision sound through your cheekbones, giving you complete awareness by leaving your ears open to hear your surroundings. No ear buds and no wires mean you can direct your attention where it should be, on the road.

It also comes with a Smart Remote that gives you an easy and safe way to stay connected while they ride. Control volume, skip tracks, pause music, take calls, turn on/off the LED tail lights, receive ride data and more without stopping to fumble with your phone. With the included mount and cables, installing the Smart Remote on any handlebar is quick and easy.

Other features include SOS Emergency Alert that will detect the impact of an accident and automatically contact your list of emergency contacts and an Coros App that’s available for Apple iOS or Android.

The COROS App connects your helmet and smart remote to deliver ultimate ride data. Analyze your rides and ride history with features such as distance, time, average speed, max speed, cadence, elevation and more.

The only drawbacks of Coros Omni are its speakers that aren’t punchier as well as its volume and pads that could be better. But overall, Coros Linx is a great smart helmet that offers safety and protection while riding through its LED lights and SOS alert, as well as features that allow you to listen to the music while cycling.

In terms of build and design, Coros’s original Linx helmet combined an aero shape with clever bone-conduction speakers built into the helmet straps. But being a pretty closed-in design and pretty bulky, it wasn’t a helmet for everyday use — certainly not when the temperature rose.

On the other hand, the Coros Omni offers the angular sculpted shape with plenty of large vents that certainly looks a lot sharper than the Linx, as does the finishing with smart graphics and a blend of matt toned reds makes it look every inch the premium product.

Verdict

After reviewing both of these smart helmets, it’s time to give our final verdict. For this one, we have to go with the Coros Omni model for one simple reason. Although priced the same as Coros Linx, Coros Omni comes with LED lights that can’t be found on the Coros Linx model.

The Coros Omni also has a better design that makes it look like a premium product. That’s not the case with Coros Linx. However, like any other verdict that we’ve ever given, it all comes down to your personal preferences.
