This is an extra safety measure if you are always worried about the safety of aero helmets because now we have an option that also provides the more common feature.

It is quite difficult to test the performance of an aero helmet because there are so many factors that affect the speed and resistance both from the cyclist and external factors. We also want to talk about the comfort of Bell Javelin and Giro Aerohead which is equally important, especially for road application. Just like most aero helmets, the visor on both of them are detachable and there is no issue about field of view or clarity as well because they have a great optic for the two. Air flow and cooling will be much better when you remove this visor but depending on the cyclist, dust and debris are factors to consider when you ride at high speed.

There are actually a few small vents above the visor to help dissipate the heat and here we do think the Javelin performs slightly better; both only have two vents and Aerohead Ultimate has none. In moderate temperature we do think they are fine as an aero helmet but you will have to deal with buildup sweat too.

Both helmets are great options if you are chasing over time and speed but they are not the same. Overall it is a good system yet not perfect and we hope they have a lower rear adjustment just to make fiddling with the knob easier.

Both have a removable visor which sadly is not adjustable but is in perfect position already to not hinder your sight so we have no problem with it. There are 13 and 18 vents respectively on both helmets which are large enough to provide an adequate air flow to the head. We feel they perform similarly well in the cooling part.

Moving to the fitting, they are paired with the same Ergo Fit from Bell which is similar to what you can find in most cycling helmets. There is a retention system that we can adjust on the back of the helmet and this will tighten the inner fit to conform into the shape of the head. The mechanism is very simple and while the adjustment is pretty close to the helmet, there is enough room for our hand/finger to reach and tweak this knob.

Bell Nomad and Spark Comfort

On the comfort both Bell Nomad and Spark are pretty breezy for a non-lightweight helmet and they do feel able to capture lots of air when you ride faster. The large vents help a lot when there is strong wind while you climb. The visor can be helpful as well but sadly none of these two are adjustable in case you want to store the goggles. For riding uphill, there is still plenty room for your vision however so they will not get in your way.

Bell Nomad Vs Spark

Both Bell Nomad and Spark are good options for anyone who are going to ride their bike on difficult terrain or off-road. They are also still good for road application in case you also commute with the bike. The prominent difference between Bell Nomad and Spark is on the construction quality as the Spark uses more material to cover the foam hence it is heavier. It also looks sportier and has larger vents but the two still use the same fitting system and non-adjustable visor.

You can go amazing with any of them as they are equally good options but for longevity, we will recommend choosing the Spark and personally we also like the styling of this helmet better than Nomad while price wise it is still very affordable.
